Battery passports for the batteries you place on the EU market
From 18 February 2027, every electric vehicle battery, every industrial battery above 2 kWh and every battery for light means of transport needs a battery passport, reached through a QR code on the battery. With Dippia you create each passport, keep its history, and publish the page the QR code leads to.

From your data to the label, in four steps
A passport has two parts: what every battery of a model shares, and what belongs to one battery. You fill in the first part once.

Step 1
Describe the battery model
The maker, the chemistry, the capacity, the carbon footprint, the recycled content: what the regulation asks about the model (Annex XIII).

Step 2
Add the batteries
One by one, or as a CSV file. We check the whole file and show you what we found before anything is saved. If one row is wrong, nothing is written, and we tell you the line and the column.

Step 3
Place them on the market
Each battery’s passport becomes a public page at an address that never changes. We draw the QR code for that address; printing it on the label is your step.

Keep the record as the battery lives
A repair, a new owner, a second life, waste, recycling: you record what happened, and the passport follows.
Everyone sees what they may see, and no more
The regulation sorts what is in a passport into three levels of access (Annex XIII). Dippia applies them field by field, so you do not have to.

The public
Anyone who scans the QR code: what the battery is, who made it, its carbon footprint, its recycled content. No account, no app.

People with a legitimate interest
Repairers, recyclers, second-life operators: dismantling and safety information, the detailed composition, and the battery’s own data. You give access to a person’s email address, and they sign in to read.

Authorities
Notified bodies, market surveillance authorities and the Commission: what the regulation keeps for them, such as test reports. They get access the same way.
What a visitor may not see is never sent to their browser. Your own team sees everything.
A record that holds
You stay responsible for what your passports say. So the record has to show what changed, when, and who changed it.

Nothing is overwritten
Every change is a new version that says who made it and when. Earlier versions are never edited and never deleted.

A lifecycle with a trail
Placed on the market, repaired, a new owner, waste, recycled: each event keeps the day it happened and who recorded it.

A battery that is repurposed, re-used or remanufactured gets a new passport linked to the first one, as the regulation asks.

Mistakes have a way out
A draft made by mistake can be discarded. A passport that is on the market is corrected with a new version, and the earlier one stays on record.

Our server and its database are in Germany. Backups are encrypted before they leave the server, and they are kept in the EU.

What is a battery passport?
- An electronic record for one battery, required by Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 (Article 77). It holds information about the battery model and about the individual battery, and people reach it through a QR code on the battery. Part of it is public. Part is only for authorities, or for people with a legitimate interest such as repairers and recyclers.

Who needs a battery passport, and from when?
- From 18 February 2027, each battery for light means of transport (LMT), each industrial battery with a capacity greater than 2 kWh and each electric vehicle battery that is placed on the EU market or put into service. The economic operator that places the battery on the market must keep the passport accurate, complete and up to date, and may authorise another operator in writing to act on its behalf.

What does Dippia do?
- Dippia is a web application where manufacturers, importers and other economic operators create battery passports, keep them up to date through each battery’s life, and publish the page that the QR code on the battery leads to.

Who can see what is in a passport?
- The regulation sets three levels (Annex XIII): information for everyone, information for people with a legitimate interest, and information for notified bodies, market surveillance authorities and the Commission. Anyone who scans the QR code sees the public part. For the rest, an admin of your team gives access to a named email address, and that person signs in to read it.

Where is our data kept?
- On our server in Germany. The database is backed up continuously. Backups are encrypted before they leave the server and are kept in the EU.

What happens when a battery is repaired, sold on, reused or recycled?
- You record the event and the passport follows. A repair or a change of owner is added to the battery’s history. A battery that is repurposed, re-used or remanufactured gets a new passport linked to the first one. After recycling the passport ceases to exist, as the regulation says, and its public address says so.

Can we bring in our batteries from a spreadsheet?
- Yes, as CSV files of up to 2000 rows. We check the whole file first and show you what we found, by line and column. Nothing is saved until you confirm, and then every row is written or none.

What happens to our passports if Dippia stops?
- The regulation asks that a passport remains available even after the company responsible for it has ceased to exist (Article 78), so it must not depend on us either. What we have today: a passport’s address holds only the battery’s ID, so the addresses can move to another host, and the backups are kept away from the server. What we have not built yet: an export you can take away, and a way to keep passports reachable without us. Both are planned.
